A plumber in Texas made a chilling discovery while performing a routine landscaping task at his workplace. Walter Stephens, an employee at Harrell Commercial Plumbing in San Antonio, found a decomposed human skull, initially mistaking it for a dried cantaloupe. The grim discovery was made on September 15.
Stephens described the moment he realized what he had found. He picked up the object, only for the bottom part of the jaw to remain on the ground. Upon turning it over and seeing teeth, he was shocked and immediately informed his boss, who then contacted the police.
Upon arrival, local authorities and the medical examiner discovered more than just a skull. A detached jaw, multiple bones, and other small body parts were scattered behind the business near Martinez Creek. The discovery of additional remains and bones near the creek added to the macabre scene.
Stephens described the experience as surreal. He and his boss often wander the property and believe that the sun-bleached remains had been recently moved to the location, possibly by an animal or a person.
The skull was later identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. The remains belonged to 30-year-old Austin Tomas Wyrosdick. Despite the grim circumstances, Stephens expressed relief that he found the remains, stating, “It’s sad, but it was good I found him.”
The cause and manner of Wyrosdick’s death are still under investigation. Police have not disclosed how long the victim had been missing, but they are continuing their investigation into the case.
