Police: Man from Maine Stabs Woman to Death, Believing She Was a “Witch”

TOPSHAM, Maine – Prosecutors have revealed that a man from Maine confessed to stabbing a woman to death, claiming that she was a “witch” and that “demons” instructed him to attack her. The suspect, 71-year-old Robert McClure, told authorities that he heard “voices in his head” on November 22 when he stabbed 64-year-old Christine Miller multiple times inside her apartment. The incident took place at the senior-living River Landing Apartment complex in Topsham.

When responding to a call at the complex around 9:30 that day, police found McClure holding a cloth to Miller’s neck. According to CBS affiliate WGME, McClure allegedly informed officers that he had been directed by the voices in his head to kill Miller because she was a witch. While Miller and McClure were in a relationship, they did not reside in the same unit.

Furthermore, McClure claimed to believe that there were multiple “demons” and “witches” residing within the apartment building. He allegedly stated that these supernatural entities told him that Miller “needed to die.” McClure did not deny his involvement, admitting to the authorities, “I did stab that lady.”

McClure, who is currently being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail, has been charged with depraved indifference murder. He appeared in court for the first time on Monday.

The motive behind this brutal attack remains under investigation. The authorities are working to establish the mental state of the accused and to determine if any underlying mental health issues may have contributed to the crime.

The tragedy has left the community in shock and mourning. The senior-living complex has implemented increased security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
