Kimberly Burch, 56, the long-time companion of Taime Downe, frontman of the 1980s glam rock band Faster Pussycat, tragically lost her life after falling from a cruise ship. The incident occurred on March 2, following a heated argument with Downe, according to multiple sources. Despite extensive search efforts, Burch’s body remains missing.
Burch reportedly fell from a cabin balcony on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, the Explorer of the Seas. The incident took place shortly after a dispute between Burch and Downe, 60, as reported by Burch’s mother in an interview with TMZ. The couple had been together for about six years.
The Explorer of the Seas was hosting an 80s-themed cruise at the time of the incident. Faster Pussycat was among the bands slated to perform, along with other 80s icons such as Men at Work, Squeeze, and Tiffany. The tragic event occurred on the first day of the week-long journey, approximately 20 miles offshore after the ship had departed from Miami.
Burch’s mother disclosed that her daughter had been drinking alcohol on the cruise, which was out of character for her. She also shared with TMZ that she does not believe her daughter would have intentionally harmed herself, as she had been eagerly anticipating the cruise.
Search operations involving helicopters were launched immediately after the incident but were eventually called off after no trace of Burch was found. The US Coast Guard issued a statement saying, “Our crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort, is working with local authorities, and we are providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time.”
The tragic incident has cast a shadow over the cruise and the music community, leaving many in shock and mourning the loss of Burch. As investigations continue, the circumstances surrounding her fall remain unclear.
