Logan County Schools said Principal Michael Bryan Kidd was removed from his duties as officials review allegations involving conduct while on duty.
LOGAN, W.Va. — The principal of Logan Middle School was arrested at the school on charges of public intoxication and child neglect creating risk after police met with a Logan County Board of Education member, authorities said.
Michael Bryan Kidd, 41, was taken into custody Tuesday, according to the Logan Police Department. Police said Kidd faces charges of public intoxication and child neglect creating risk. He was arraigned in Logan County Magistrate Court. Authorities have not publicly released details describing the conduct that led to the charges.
Logan County Schools confirmed Kidd was the employee the district previously said had been removed from his duties because of criminal charges. The district said it had received allegations concerning the conduct of a school employee while that person was on duty and took immediate action after learning of the matter.
The school system said the employee was removed from his duties pending further review and consideration of appropriate action. District officials did not disclose the specific accusations or provide additional information about what allegedly happened at the school.
Police said officers arrested Kidd at Logan Middle School after meeting with a member of the county Board of Education. Officials have not released further details about what prompted that meeting, who contacted police or whether a specific incident involving a student led to the child neglect charge.
The charge against Kidd is an allegation, and the available reports do not establish that he has been convicted of any offense. Authorities also have not publicly released additional court records detailing the factual basis for the child neglect creating risk charge.
The district’s statement focused on its response to the allegations, saying school officials acted promptly after receiving information about the employee’s conduct. It did not announce who would oversee Logan Middle School during Kidd’s absence or say how long the internal review could take.
Kidd’s arrest drew attention because the allegations concern conduct authorities say occurred while he was serving as a school principal. However, police and school officials have released only limited information, leaving several details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest unresolved.
Kidd remained removed from his school duties pending the district’s review. The criminal case will proceed separately through the court system, and authorities had not announced additional charges or released further details about the allegations as of Monday.
