Seven police officers in San Antonio were injured in a shooting incident while responding to a distress call regarding a potential suicide. The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the Stone Oak neighborhood, according to San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus. The suspect, later found deceased in an apartment following a standoff, was a man in his 40s.
The initial call to the police was made by a family member of the suspect. A SWAT team was deployed to the scene as the situation escalated. The standoff lasted several hours before the suspect was found dead. The cause of the suspect’s death was not immediately clear, according to Chief McManus.
This incident is not the first of its kind in recent times. On January 22, 2025, four police officers were injured while responding to a similar call. The officers were attending to a “suicide-in-progress” situation when the incident occurred.
Earlier reports from Chief McManus indicated that four officers were injured in the recent incident. However, he later confirmed that the number of injured officers was seven. None of the injuries sustained by the officers were believed to be life-threatening.
In his subsequent statements, Chief McManus did not provide specific details about the condition of the injured officers. The incident is currently under investigation, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
The San Antonio Police Department is yet to release a formal statement about the incident. The identities of the injured officers and the deceased suspect have not been disclosed.
