A chaotic scene unfolded in a Miami-area supermarket on Thursday evening when a shirtless man, later identified as Climont Mann, allegedly attacked several individuals with a metal shelf. The incident, which took place at a Publix store located at Southwest 163rd Street and Southwest 95th Avenue, reportedly began as a heated verbal dispute between two large groups of people near the store’s entrance around 6 p.m.
The argument escalated into a physical altercation, with two women grappling and crashing into a display unit for greeting cards. The impact dislodged a shelf, which Mann is accused of picking up and using as a weapon against the women. Video footage obtained by local media shows Mann striking the women with the shelf before moving towards another skirmish, only to return and continue his assault on the women.
The video also shows Mann striking one of the women in the head. The 20-year-old is seen hitting the women with the shelf two more times before discarding it and joining the larger brawl. The fight, which involved several other individuals, spread across the store, with items such as greeting cards, headphones, a loaf of bread, paper, sandals, and a wig being thrown around.
Bystanders watched the chaos unfold, with some continuing to shop as if nothing was happening. Uniformed Publix employees positioned themselves near the registers and employee offices, awaiting the arrival of the police. The brawl eventually moved outside to the parking lot, where it was broken up by law enforcement. All those involved in the brawl were subsequently banned from the store.
The aftermath of the brawl saw two individuals transported to the hospital, while several others were treated by fire crews at the scene. A local shopper expressed her shock and disappointment at the incident, criticizing the store’s security for not intervening sooner.
Mann was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. However, the charge of criminal mischief was dropped in bond court the following day. A judge ordered Mann to avoid contact with his alleged victims, both in person and online. He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,150 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on December 8.
