Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said 10 people were wounded in a mass shooting in downtown Charleston late Monday night. Four of the victims remain in the hospital in critical condition.

Charleston police say multiple people were struck by gunfire on Monday night. Footage from a nearby doorbell camera shows people running for shelter.

One person was arrested early Tuesday on a charge of disorderly conduct, and two women were arrested on charges of assault and battery after the shooting that resulted in the assault of two deputies.

Police received a noise complaint at a vacant lot in the area, where there was a loud party, and two shots were fired at an officer. Several cars were hit by gunfire, and several officers were assaulted and injured.

Deputies responded to a report of a wounded Charleston Police officer and found several fights had broken out. One deputy suffered facial injuries, while another was knocked to the ground and suffered cuts to his head, hand and elbow.

Residents in Charleston’s Eastside are reacting to the Memorial Day block party shooting. Residents are asking for more transparency and answers from police about the increase in crime happening in their neighborhood.
