A high-speed police pursuit and subsequent exchange of gunfire in the Nagazi region of Butterworth, situated in the Eastern Cape, culminated in the demise of six heavily armed individuals. The incident unfolded on the N2 highway, where the individuals were intercepted by law enforcement officers while in transit from an undisclosed location.
The situation escalated when police attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicles, triggering a high-speed chase. In the ensuing pandemonium, one of the suspect vehicles swerved off the road and plummeted into a nearby river. Currently, police diving units are combing the river for possible additional casualties.
The Provincial Police Commissioner General disclosed that the suspects had been under police surveillance due to their suspected involvement in a string of crimes. A high-ranking police official, who requested anonymity, mentioned that the group was returning from a meeting when they ran into the police.

Amid the ensuing chaos, two suspect vehicles collided with police cars, leading to the fatal shooting of three suspects in each vehicle.
