Denisse Reyes, a 27-year-old social media influencer from Mexico, met a tragic end due to complications from a liposuction procedure. The operation took place at an unlicensed medical facility, San Pablo Medical Clinic, in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas.
Before the procedure, Reyes was administered an intravenous medication by her surgeon, Dr. Orlando Gamboa. Regrettably, she experienced a severe adverse reaction to the drug, which ultimately resulted in her death. Reyes’ uncle, Ammao Rodriguez, revealed that she started feeling unwell and suffered a cardiac arrest, necessitating her immediate removal from the clinic.
Following her cardiac arrest, Reyes was rushed to Manzur Hospital. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, she succumbed to her condition on Wednesday. Rodriguez confirmed that Reyes, who leaves behind an eight-year-old son, had no known pre-existing health issues.
Rodriguez is presently liaising with health authorities in Chiapas and intends to file a lawsuit against Dr. Gamboa. He voiced his desire for justice for his niece and for the doctor to be held accountable for his actions.
This incident is not the first time Dr. Gamboa has been implicated in a patient’s death. In December 2024, he was accused of causing the death of a woman who had undergone liposuction. However, he has refuted any involvement in Reyes’ procedure.
Reyes rose to prominence in 2022 within Mexico’s social media scene. Her family and followers have expressed their sorrow online. Her sister, Massiel Reyes, remembered her as a woman who embraced life, characterizing her as free-spirited, spontaneous, and outgoing.
