Son Fatally Stabs His Father

A Minnesota man, aged 47, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the alleged stabbing of his father. Troy Blaine Almhjeld was taken into custody on Tuesday after he reportedly killed his 71-year-old father, Blaine Lars Almhjeld, in his home, before fleeing the scene in a drunken state.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies and state troopers responded to a 911 call around 2:11 a.m. on June 3, 2025. The call was about an abandoned vehicle off the road on Highway 22 South, near the Terrace View Gold Course, approximately 80 miles southwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The caller reported that the driver, later identified as Troy Almhjeld, had driven off the road and asked for a ride before walking north on Highway 22. The witness also reported that Troy Almhjeld seemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

Despite a thorough search of the area, first responders were unable to locate Troy Almhjeld. Upon running a check on the abandoned vehicle, it was discovered that the car was registered to Blaine Almhjeld. This led authorities to the elder Almhjeld’s residence in the 200 block of Silver Street West in Mapleton, Minnesota.

Upon arrival at the residence, authorities found Blaine Almhjeld inside with multiple stab wounds and clear signs of trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It was soon discovered that the victim shared his home with his son, prompting a search for Troy Almhjeld.

As the search along Highway 22 continued, Troy Almhjeld reportedly emerged from the woods near the golf course and approached the deputies conducting the search. He was immediately taken into custody and, after confirming that he lived with his father, was charged in connection with the murder.

Court documents revealed further details about the alleged patricide. When deputies first arrived at the victim’s home, they found the door ajar and a body visible inside. Blaine Almhjeld was reportedly covered in blood, with a series of puncture wounds, a large laceration across his chest, and visible head trauma. A kitchen knife, with blood on it and matching the puncture wounds on Blaine Almhjeld, was recovered from inside the home.

When Troy Almhjeld emerged from the woods, he claimed that another driver had run him off the road and into the river, and that he had been in the water until recently. He then began asking about his father’s condition, stating that they had been arguing earlier that evening. Troy Almhjeld is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
