Harris County investigators believe the husband shot his wife before dying by suicide inside the couple’s bedroom.
CYPRESS, Texas — An adult son found his parents dead inside a bedroom at their Cypress-area home early Friday, prompting a Harris County investigation into what authorities described as an apparent murder-suicide.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 13200 block of Campos Drive in the Barwood neighborhood after the son called 911 and reported finding his parents, according to officials. Deputies and emergency medical personnel entered the home and confirmed that the married couple, both in their 70s, had died.
Investigators said evidence inside the house indicated that the husband shot his wife before dying by suicide. Authorities continued to describe that sequence as a preliminary finding while homicide detectives and crime scene investigators examined the residence.
Sgt. Mike Ritchie of the Sheriff’s Office said investigators were working to determine what happened before the deaths. The couple’s son and other family members were interviewed as detectives gathered information about the household and the events leading to the discovery.
Authorities had not released the names or exact ages of the husband and wife as of Friday evening. Officials also had not announced a possible motive or provided details about whether deputies had previously responded to the residence.
The deaths occurred at a home in a residential area northwest of Houston. Law enforcement officers remained at the property during the morning as investigators processed the scene and spoke with relatives.
No information released by authorities indicated that another person was being sought in connection with the deaths. Investigators did not report any continuing threat to residents in the surrounding neighborhood.
The Sheriff’s Office had not released further information about the firearm or other evidence recovered from the bedroom. Officials also had not said when the shootings were believed to have occurred before the son entered the room and called for help.
The investigation remained active Friday. The couple’s identities and final causes and manners of death were expected to be formally established through the continuing investigative and medical examination process.
