Jabari Henley, the son of Eugene Henley Jr., a former leader of the Rollin’ 60’s Neighborhood Crips and a prominent figure in the music industry, was fatally shot outside a smoke shop in South Los Angeles on Friday night. The 34-year-old was attacked around 11 p.m. at the intersection of 69th Street and Figueroa Street. According to reports, Henley approached a vehicle on the street when an unidentified assailant or assailants opened fire.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Despite the efforts of first responders to save Henley’s life, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Henley, also known as “Baby Uiie,” is the older brother of Daiyan Henley, an inside linebacker for the Los Angeles Chargers.
In a separate incident earlier this year, Eugene Henley Jr., known in the music industry as “Big U,” surrendered to federal agents in March. He was accused of operating a “Mafia-like” criminal organization involved in murder, human trafficking, robbery, and extortion in Los Angeles. The elder Henley was among 18 alleged members of the Rollin 60s street gang charged in a comprehensive federal racketeering complaint filed by the US Attorney’s Office in March.
The indictment alleged that the 58-year-old Henley Jr. ran a criminal network involved in numerous felonies, tax evasion, and embezzlement of donations to his charity, the “Big U Enterprise.” The indictment also implicated him in the murder of aspiring musician Rayshawn Williams in January 2021. Williams, who had signed with Henley Jr.’s Uneek Music label, was allegedly killed by Henley Jr. after recording a defamatory song about him.
Another music industry figure, Termaine Ashley Williams, known as “Luce Cannon,” was also named in the indictment and is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. He reportedly informed Henley Jr. of his son’s shooting.
The Los Angeles Police Department has not confirmed the details of the shooting or whether it was gang-related. It is believed by some that Henley may have known his attacker, but this has not been confirmed.
