Surf Instructor’s Arm Ripped Off After Horrific Accident

Elieah Boyd, a 24-year-old surf instructor from California, was involved in a severe accident when she was hit by an Amtrak train while crossing the tracks on her electric bike. The impact resulted in the amputation of her arm, which was later discovered several feet from the scene of the accident. In a remarkable turn of events, surgeons were able to successfully reattach her arm following an extensive surgical procedure.

Boyd recalled the terrifying incident, explaining that she had no warning of the oncoming train. She had only a few seconds to react before the train collided with her, clipping her bike and severing her arm. The accident took place around 5:30 p.m. on July 7 in Ventura, as Boyd was navigating her 80-pound electric bike across the train tracks.

In a stroke of luck, a retired firefighter was nearby when the accident occurred and quickly called for medical help. Boyd was airlifted to UC Irvine Medical Center, where she underwent a grueling 10-hour surgery to reattach her severed limb. Despite the traumatic experience, Boyd is showing signs of recovery, with two more surgeries planned in the upcoming weeks.

Boyd, a passionate surfer and surf coach, is eager to return to the ocean. She expressed her desire to get back on her surfboard, stating that it’s all she dreams about while in the hospital. She also reported feeling jolts of energy in her arm, a sign that it’s healing.

To assist with Boyd’s medical expenses and recovery, a GoFundMe campaign was established with a goal of $65,000. The campaign has already raised over $50,000, demonstrating the community’s support for Boyd’s recovery journey.

The GoFundMe page describes Boyd as showing incredible strength throughout her ordeal, maintaining her positive spirit and infectious smile. Despite the long and challenging road to recovery ahead, her resilience is expected to carry her through.
