Authorities say the 17-year-old arranged the meeting under false pretenses after believing the man had slept with her girlfriend.
TOMBALL, Texas — A 17-year-old girl is accused of luring a man to a suburban Houston park under false pretenses and repeatedly stabbing him after becoming angry over her belief that he had slept with her girlfriend, according to authorities and court documents.
Gabriele Olortegui is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Sept. 18 attack at Burroughs Park on Hufsmith Road in Tomball. Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s office said deputies found the injured man suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital and was reported in stable condition. The allegations against Olortegui have not been proven in court.
Investigators allege Olortegui arranged for the man to come to the park by using a false reason for the meeting. Authorities have not publicly provided details about what she allegedly told the man to persuade him to go there or given a full account of what happened immediately before the confrontation. Police said Olortegui and the victim otherwise did not know each other.
Court documents cited by news organizations say investigators believe Olortegui was angry because she thought the man had been sexually involved with her girlfriend. Authorities have described that belief as the apparent motive behind the encounter. Publicly available information does not establish whether the alleged sexual encounter actually occurred.
A criminal complaint alleges Olortegui used a knife during the attack. A probable cause document cited by Law&Crime says investigators allege she used a pocket knife and stabbed the man five times in the face and head. The constable’s office reported injuries to the victim’s face, neck and hand. Authorities described his condition as stable while saying he faced a lengthy recovery.
Law enforcement located and arrested Olortegui after the attack, according to the constable’s office. Officials did not publicly describe where she was found or provide additional details about the circumstances of the arrest. Public booking information indicates she was booked into the Harris County Jail on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
Bond was set at $75,000 and was later posted, according to court information cited in reports about the case. Olortegui is scheduled for a court appearance Oct. 14. The aggravated assault charge is an accusation, and the criminal proceedings remain pending.
A separate court filing cited by Law&Crime shows prosecutors requested that Olortegui be interviewed regarding a possible intellectual disability or mental illness. The existence of that request does not establish that she has either condition, and the publicly available material reviewed for this report does not provide a finding or diagnosis.
Burroughs Park is among the Harris County parks patrolled by the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office. The park is in the Tomball area northwest of Houston. Authorities have not indicated in the material reviewed that the victim and Olortegui had a relationship before the alleged meeting or that another person participated in the stabbing.
The case remains pending in Harris County. Olortegui faces the aggravated assault allegation as the victim continues recovering from his injuries, and her next reported court appearance is set for Oct. 14.
