A violent altercation at West Potomac High School in Fairfax County, Virginia, resulted in a 16-year-old student being critically injured after being stabbed by a 15-year-old classmate. The incident, which took place around 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, involved three students. The injured student was immediately transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. However, his condition has since stabilized and he is on the road to recovery, a development that has brought relief to the community, according to Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis.
The 15-year-old student, whose identity remains undisclosed due to his age, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. A knife, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, was recovered from the scene. The police have confirmed that this was an isolated incident and there are no other suspects involved.
The third student involved in the fight was questioned by the police, but Chief Davis does not anticipate any charges against him. The incident has caused a stir among the student body, with footage of the violent brawl circulating among students. Another image reportedly shows students and adults surrounding a teenager bleeding on the floor. The police have confirmed that the attacker and the victim knew each other.
Chief Davis expressed his sorrow over the incident, particularly given the young age of the attacker. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the involvement of others. Despite the violent incident, the school remained open and classes resumed.
Michelle Reid, the superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools, commended the staff’s response to the incident and expressed gratitude to the first responders, who she believes may have saved a life. Reid confirmed that there were no metal detectors in place at the school.
