The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office arrested Monica Figueroa, 42, of Texas, on Monday concerning the death of her 4-year-old son, Grayson Hurt.
Sheriff Botie Hillhouse told reporters that Figueroa had allegedly used an edged weapon to take her son’s life on Sunday, a crime reported by her mother, Mary Johnson.
Hillhouse noted that Johnson had witnessed her daughter on top of a rolled blanket Sunday night and was using a knife to cut into it. During the incident, Johnson heard screaming and was present until the screaming stopped. Figueroa then allegedly told Johnson to leave and threatened her. Johnson returned the following morning, finding her grandson dead, spurring her to call the police.
When officers arrived at the house, they discovered Hurt’s body partially covered by a blanket. Figueroa was soon taken into custody.
Upon questioning, Figueroa allegedly admitted to killing her son. Additionally, Hillhouse stated that the suspect only had one child in the home and didn’t have custody of any other children. A heartbreaking autopsy will be conducted in Dallas.
