Truck Driver Shoots Manager Dead

Police say a dispute over an additional work assignment ended with a manager being shot and killed.

TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida tow truck driver has been charged with murder after police said he shot his manager to death when the supervisor asked him to respond to another service call near the end of his shift.

Investigators said the shooting occurred at a towing company facility, where employees were preparing to wrap up the workday. Authorities identified the suspect as a company driver and said the victim was his direct manager. Detectives believe an argument over work duties escalated into violence within minutes.

According to police, the manager instructed the driver to handle an additional towing assignment before leaving for the day. Witnesses told investigators that the employee became upset during the conversation. The disagreement intensified, and police said the driver later produced a firearm and shot the manager. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but the victim died from injuries sustained during the shooting.

Detectives interviewed employees who were present when the confrontation unfolded. Several workers reportedly described a tense exchange before gunfire erupted. Investigators also collected surveillance footage and physical evidence from the business. Authorities have not indicated that anyone else was injured during the incident.

Police arrested the suspect shortly after the shooting and booked him into jail on a murder charge. Court records show prosecutors are expected to review additional evidence as the criminal case proceeds. Investigators have not released information suggesting there had been previous violent incidents between the two men.

Workplace homicides remain relatively rare compared with other forms of violent crime, but disputes involving supervisors and employees often draw significant attention because they occur in environments generally viewed as safe. Law enforcement officials said the investigation will focus on the events leading up to the shooting, witness accounts and any available video evidence.

The towing company has not publicly detailed its future operations following the incident. Employees who witnessed the shooting are expected to be interviewed again as detectives continue building the case. Prosecutors will determine whether additional charges are appropriate as evidence is reviewed.

Authorities said the investigation remains active. The suspect is expected to appear in court as the homicide case moves through the judicial process.
