Two Charged in Death of Missing Teen Girl

Nearly two years following the perplexing vanishing of Kaitlin Whoolery, a 17-year-old girl, two individuals have been indicted in connection with her demise. The charges have been filed as law enforcement continues to piece together the tragic circumstances surrounding Whoolery’s death. The teenager disappeared in 2023 after departing from a drug rehabilitation facility. Her remains were discovered five months later in a deserted property in North Union Township, triggering a complicated investigation.

The District Attorney’s office in Fayette County has verified the apprehension and indictment of Derek Bradley, 37. Vincent Cossell, 44, has also been implicated in the case and is presently collaborating with the investigators. The case is heavily reliant on the testimonies of eyewitnesses due to the lack of significant forensic evidence.

As per the criminal complaint, Whoolery was last seen alive in the presence of Bradley, Cossell, and another person. Kash Patel, a witness, informed the police that he and Bradley had momentarily left the room, only to return and find Whoolery unresponsive. Despite attempts to revive her with Narcan, a drug used to counteract the effects of opioids, Whoolery could not be revived.

Patel also claimed that he had encouraged Bradley and Cossell to contact emergency services, but they refused. The refusal was reportedly due to the hotel room being registered under Cossell’s name and concerns about Bradley’s inappropriate relationship with the underage Whoolery.

Investigators have also expressed doubts about certain family members of Whoolery, suggesting that they may have concealed vital information that could have assisted the investigation. The potential for charges against these individuals remains as the investigation progresses.

Despite the numerous challenges encountered during the investigation, law enforcement officers have remained dedicated to the case. Their relentless efforts have been crucial in advancing the case and bringing those responsible closer to justice.

As the charges have been filed, the focus now shifts to ensuring accountability and closure for Whoolery’s family, who have endured a prolonged period of uncertainty and grief.
