Two regional jets operated by Delta Air Lines were involved in a minor collision at LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday evening. The incident, which occurred at low speed while the planes were taxiing, resulted in minor injuries to a crew member. The two planes involved were Endeavor Air flight 5155, set to depart for Roanoke, Virginia, and Endeavor Air flight 5047, which had just arrived from Charlotte, North Carolina. The wing of the departing flight reportedly collided with the fuselage of the arriving flight on the airport’s taxiway shortly before 10 p.m.
A flight attendant from one of the aircraft was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No passengers were injured during the incident, a fact confirmed by both the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Delta Air Lines. Social media posts showed emergency vehicles surrounding the two Canadianair CRJ-900 regional jets on the taxiway of the Queens-based airport. Additional images showed noticeable damage to the nose of one of the aircraft.
Following the incident, the passengers on both flights, 28 on Endeavor Air flight 5155 and 57 on Endeavor Air flight 5047, were escorted back to the terminal. Delta Air Lines provided food and beverages and arranged accommodation for the affected passengers. The airline also offered passengers the option to reschedule their flights.
Delta Air Lines issued a statement expressing their commitment to customer care and safety. The airline’s teams at the New York-LaGuardia hub are working to ensure the well-being of the affected customers. Delta also pledged to cooperate with all relevant authorities to investigate the incident and apologized to its customers for the inconvenience caused.
The Port Authority confirmed that the incident did not disrupt operations at LaGuardia Airport. Delta will collaborate with the Port Authority, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and other relevant bodies to review the incident. The FAA has yet to comment on the matter.
