A 20-year-old woman from Ohio is facing legal repercussions after allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old girl at a playground. The incident, which was captured on a cellphone video by the victim’s parents, reportedly shows the woman physically assaulting the young girl. The report filed with the Canton Police Department alleges that the woman, identified as Destany Scott, violently slammed the child’s head against the metal part of a slide.
Scott is also accused of making a disturbing statement to the victim’s mother, Paige Dishong, expressing a wish for her daughter’s death. Dishong, in an interview with a local CBS affiliate, expressed her outrage over the incident, calling for more severe charges than a misdemeanor, assault, and disorderly conduct.
Dishong highlighted the significant size difference between Scott and her daughter, pointing out that Scott, who weighs 270 pounds, could have potentially killed her 110-pound daughter. The incident has left the community shocked and concerned about the safety of their children.
The Canton Police Department was alerted to the incident on Friday, following a report of an assault at a park on the 1600 block of Clark Avenue. The victim, Dishong’s daughter, recounted the terrifying experience, stating that Scott had approached her from behind, grabbed her by the hair, and thrown her to the ground.
Upon arrival at the scene, police reportedly found Scott engaged in a heated argument with Dishong. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but authorities believe it stemmed from a dispute between Scott and Dishong’s daughter.
Scott has been formally charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and obstructing official business in relation to the incident. She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear in court for pretrial proceedings next week.
