Woman Brutally Murdered and Dumped Under Tarp

ADRIAN, Michigan – A 45-year-old man, Steven D. Bails, has been convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the killing of his ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old Kayla Sedoskey. Bails shot Sedoskey in the head and hid her body under a tarp at an abandoned juvenile detention center in Frenchtown Township, Michigan. The jury deliberated for only about an hour and a half before finding Bails guilty on both counts.

Bails is one of six individuals charged in connection with Sedoskey’s murder. His wife, Narena Bails, and Sierra Bemis had previously pleaded no contest to second-degree murder. Alexander Feko, another suspect, pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and accessory to a homicide after the fact. All three testified against Bails during his trial.

The remaining suspects, Brin Smith and Kaylyn Ramsey, are scheduled for trial later this year. Both face charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. They are currently being held in the Monroe County Jail with a bail set at $1 million each.

On March 3, 2023, Sedoskey’s body was discovered by troopers with the Michigan State Police in the abandoned Boysville Juvenile Detention Center. Her body had been bound and wrapped in a tarp, then hidden under a door. Authorities revealed that Sedoskey had been shot twice in the head and once in the back.

According to reports, each suspect was acquainted with Sedoskey. It was revealed that Barbie Watson, Sedoskey’s biological mother, had previously claimed that her ex-boyfriend, Bails, had been harassing her and making threats before the murder.

Sentencing for Bails, his wife, and Bemis is scheduled for May 23, while Feko’s sentencing hearing is set for May 13.
