CORAL SPRINGS, FL – A Florida woman is facing charges of premeditated murder after allegedly shooting her husband to death following a heated argument on Labor Day weekend. The 45-year-old woman, Denise Nicole Malcolm, reportedly had a long-standing dispute with her husband over his alleged infidelity. The argument escalated after a shopping trip for a Labor Day barbecue when her husband, 52-year-old Rohan Malcolm, announced he was leaving to spend time with friends, a claim she did not believe.
The Coral Springs Police Department was alerted to the incident by a 14-year-old boy, one of the couple’s twin sons, who called 911 around 6:32 p.m. on August 31. The boy reported that his father had been shot but was still breathing at their home on Northwest 43rd Street.
Within minutes, officers arrived at the scene and began issuing loud verbal commands for the occupants to exit the house. The twin boys were safely evacuated while Denise Malcolm remained inside. Shortly after, a loud gunshot was heard, believed to be the fatal shot that killed Rohan Malcolm.
Upon entering the house, officers found Rohan Malcolm lying on his back in a bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds and no signs of life. The boy who had called 911 told investigators that he had been in his room when he heard the gunshots. Upon leaving his room, he saw his mother standing in the doorway with a handgun and his father shot in the shoulder.
The boy also revealed to the police that his parents were estranged, sleeping in separate bedrooms, and frequently argued about his father’s alleged affairs. His twin brother, who had been on the couch in the living room, also heard the gunshots and ran into the garage as his brother called the police.
After being taken into custody and read her Miranda rights, Denise Malcolm allegedly confessed to the police that her husband had been unfaithful for the past two years. She claimed that they slept in separate bedrooms and frequently had heated arguments. She was reportedly at her wits’ end with his lies and deceit.
The tension in the relationship reached a boiling point after the Labor Day shopping trip when Rohan Malcolm announced he was leaving to go to Port Saint Lucie with his friends. Denise Malcolm interpreted this as him going to see another woman. After an hour-long argument, she allegedly retrieved a gun from her bedroom closet and shot her husband multiple times.
Denise Malcolm allegedly considered suicide but changed her mind after her wounded husband said something to her. She then allegedly shot him one final time, left the gun on a dresser, and exited the house where she was subsequently arrested. She remains in Broward County Jail without bond as she faces the premeditated murder case.
