A San Diego, California, apartment complex was the scene of a horrific incident that left residents in shock. A man is accused of throwing his girlfriend from a third-story balcony, allegedly in response to her tossing some of his belongings over the railing. The victim, 61-year-old Irene Williams, sustained severe head injuries and a broken femur. She was rushed to the hospital by paramedics, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The accused, 57-year-old Albert Turner, is now facing charges of first-degree murder, according to a press release from the San Diego Police Department. The incident occurred around 7:21 p.m. on Monday at an apartment complex located on the 500 block of West San Ysidro Boulevard. Witnesses who saw the incident unfold dialed 911, reporting that a man had thrown a woman from a balcony.
Investigations revealed that prior to the incident, Williams and Turner had been engaged in an argument. In the heat of the moment, Williams had taken some of Turner’s belongings and thrown them over the balcony. This reportedly led to the tragic escalation of events.
Charles Riddle, a neighbor who witnessed the incident, expressed his shock to local NBC affiliate KNSD. He recounted that he was on his way to his car when he overheard the couple arguing. Before he could reach his car, he saw Turner grab Williams from behind and throw her over the balcony. The sight of Williams hitting the ground headfirst left him deeply traumatized.
Turner was apprehended at the scene by the police. Another neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, noted the significant size difference between Turner and Williams in an interview with KNSD. The neighbor described Williams as a frail, elderly woman, while Turner was characterized as a large, muscular man.
The neighbor also revealed that Turner had moved in with Williams just a month or so prior to the incident. Turner is currently being held at the San Diego County Jail without bond. His court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
