HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating a possible hit-and-run after a Houston Fire Department ambulance crew found a woman dead in a southwest Houston roadway early Sunday, authorities said.
The woman was discovered near 11450 Bissonnet Street at about 1:47 a.m. Sept. 27. The ambulance crew was traveling through the area when it encountered her in the roadway, according to information attributed to the Houston Police Department. Authorities said she had severe head injuries and appeared to have been struck by a vehicle.
Police had not publicly identified the woman in the reports reviewed. Investigators also had not definitively established how she was fatally injured, leaving the circumstances surrounding her death under investigation.
A person later returned to the scene and told investigators that they believed they might have struck the woman, police said. Authorities had not confirmed whether that person or the person’s vehicle was involved in the incident.
Police said the person who returned to the scene did not show apparent signs of impairment. No arrest or charge had been announced in connection with the woman’s death in the latest reports reviewed.
