Woman gets 15 months in prison for punching flight attendant – The Associated Press
Vyvianna Quinonez, 29, pleaded guilty to interfering with flight crew members and attendants and was ordered to attend anger management classes or counseling for three years.
A flight attendant asked a passenger to wear her face mask properly, fasten her seat belt and stow her tray table. The passenger pushed the flight attendant, punched her in the face and head, and grabbed her by the hair.
Vyvianna Quinonez, 29, broke the flight attendant’s teeth and caused bruises and a cut under her left eye. In addition to imprisonment, she was also ordered to pay $26,000 in restitution and $7,500 in fines.
Quinonez was originally released on bond following her guilty plea, but was arrested nine days later for driving under the influence. She has since spent nearly four months behind bars.
Quinonez pleaded guilty to interfering with flight crew members and attendants and was ordered to attend anger management classes or counseling for three years.
Southwest’s vice president of Inflight Operations wrote that the incident has negatively impacted the workgroup and caused fear to come permanently into the workplace.
In 2021, airlines reported more than 5,000 incidents of unruly behavior by passengers, mostly due to passengers refusing to wear face masks.
