Kristin Potter, a 38-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, was brutally killed in a dog attack while feeding her neighbor’s canines on March 16.
Potter and her son had gone to her neighbors home in Centre Township in Perry County to feed the dogs, something she had done before.
As she attempted to feed the dogs, two of the Great Danes aggressively attacked her, resulting in her death. Potter’s son, who had been present at the time of the attack, witnessed the tragedy and ran off to get help.
When emergency responders and police officers arrived, Potter had already passed away. The officers had to wait for animal control to arrive and sedate the dogs before they could approach her.
The two Great Danes responsible for the attack were put to sleep by a veterinarian. State police are investigating the incident and have yet to determine if the dogs’ owner will be charged with any crime. The owner expressed her sorrow and shock, saying she was “heartbroken.”
The American Kennel Club stated that Great Danes are usually “easygoing” creatures with a height of 32 inches, although they can be “alert home guardians.” Between 1979 and 1998, there were only seven fatal dog attacks by Great Danes.
