Just after 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 11th, 2023, tragedy engulfed the Cheltenham Township community in Pennsylvania.
35-year-old Rachel King, a teacher for a decade at Grover Cleveland Elementary Schools, was shot and killed in the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru while her 11-year-old son sat in the back seat of her SUV.
Kevin Steele, Montgomery County District Attorney, said the shooting “appeared to be a targeted murder.”
The suspect opened fire multiple times at the victim as she arrived at the Melrose Shopping Center in a black Ford Edge. The suspect did not attempt to open the car door before shooting through the glass. The perpetrator was reported to be Black, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, and light-colored pants.
The suspected car was described as a light-colored sedan, possibly a Ford or Mercury, driving directly behind the victim’s vehicle before parking a short distance from the drive-thru lane.
Local authorities began an investigation by interviewing witnesses and analyzing surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
