A fatal date night in Indiana has led to the arrest and charging of two teenagers for murder. The victim, 25-year-old Jarrell Pryor, was shot and killed in the early hours of January 25. The incident occurred during a date with 19-year-old Alexis Hawkins, who is now accused by law enforcement of orchestrating a robbery against Pryor.
According to an arrest affidavit, Hawkins was allegedly in communication with her boyfriend, 18-year-old Brian Winston Jr., via Instagram, planning the time to meet with Pryor. On the night of the date, Winston is accused of shooting Pryor while he was in his car, resulting in the death of the young father.
The Indianapolis Star reported that law enforcement deduced that Pryor and Hawkins were on a date based on their Instagram exchanges. However, it is alleged that Hawkins was simultaneously messaging another individual, making plans to rob Pryor during their date. The affidavit identified this individual as Winston.
Upon securing a search warrant for Hawkins’ Instagram account, investigators discovered that she had conducted Google searches for “news today,” “news today near me,” and “shootings Keystone” on the day of the incident. Additionally, she allegedly sent messages to several people requesting a ride from a location near the shooting scene around the time the incident occurred.
When questioned by police on February 6, Hawkins claimed she had no recollection of the night in question. She denied having any firearms with her at the time, reportedly telling police, “no weapon to say I did anything. My fingerprints aren’t on anything.” When asked if her fingerprints would be found in Pryor’s car, she responded, “it’s not going to be on no weapon, though.”
The Indianapolis Star also reported that Hawkins ceased cooperation and requested an attorney when questioned about a message she sent, in which she mentioned making a “play.”
Hawkins was arrested in February and charged with murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 19. Winston faces charges of murder, felony murder, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. He made a court appearance on April 15 and is also due in court on May 19. Both teenagers are currently being held at the Marion County Jail without bond.
