13-Year-Old Girl Shot While Playing on Trampoline

In Hyattsville, Maryland, a 13-year-old girl is recovering in a local hospital after being the victim of a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred on Thursday evening while the teenager was enjoying her time on a trampoline in front of her home.

The peaceful scene was disrupted when a red vehicle, carrying at least two individuals pulled up to the 5600 block of Hamilton Street. Witnesses report that the occupants of the car opened fire before speeding away from the scene. The young girl was hit, and her pet dog, startled by the sudden violence, fled the scene.

The local police arrived shortly after the incident, cordoning off the neighborhood as they began their investigation. Officers conducted door-to-door interviews, collected evidence from the crime scene, and sought any potential surveillance footage that could aid in identifying the perpetrators.

The victim’s brother, speaking with the permission of their grandmother, expressed his shock and pain at the situation. He described the incident as “devastating” and admitted that he was unsure who would target their home in such a violent manner. He expressed hope for his sister’s recovery while acknowledging that such acts of violence have sadly become a “reality.”

The shooting comes on the heels of another violent incident in Hyattsville, where a 28-year-old man, Brandon Iziah Green, was gunned down near an apartment complex. The Prince George’s County Police Department is actively investigating both incidents and is currently searching for the shooters involved in the attack on the young girl.

While the 13-year-old girl is expected to survive, her family reports that she is deeply traumatized by the incident. As the community reels from the shock of these violent events, the search for the perpetrators continues.
