COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, three individuals lost their lives and three were injured following a shooting in the northern part of Columbus, according to the Columbus Division of Police. The shooting took place near East 5th Avenue and Summit Street, situated between the Italian Village and Weinland Park neighborhoods. Police rushed to the scene after receiving reports of shots fired around 2:45 a.m., encountering a highly chaotic situation.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered multiple victims with gunshot wounds. Sadly, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third victim succumbed to their injuries at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center shortly before 3:30 a.m. The conditions of the other victims vary, with two described as stable, and the third being in critical condition and receiving immediate medical attention.
As authorities launch their investigation, it remains unclear what led to the shooting. The police have not yet released any information regarding potential suspects. Deputy Chief Gregory Bodker affirmed that witnesses to the incident have cooperated with law enforcement thus far, offering their accounts of the tragic events.
To conduct a thorough examination, East 5th Avenue from North High Street to North 4th Street, as well as Summit from East 7th Avenue to East 3rd Avenue, will be closed for several hours. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office will assist the investigation, utilizing a drone to aid in gathering crucial evidence, Bodker announced.
