3 Dead, Multiple Injured in Tragic Shooting

Minneapolis, Minnesota – A police officer, identified as Jamal Mitchell, was among the three fatalities in a shooting incident that occurred on Thursday in Minneapolis. The incident also left several others injured, including a second police officer and a firefighter.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed his condolences during a press conference, acknowledging the fallen officer’s dedication to protecting and serving the community. Mitchell, who was also a father and a fiancé, had previously been recognized for rescuing a couple from a house fire.

According to Assistant Chief Katie Blackwell, the incident began when officers responded to a report of a double shooting on Blaisdell Avenue. As soon as the officers arrived at the scene, they were immediately fired upon by the suspect. A shootout ensued, resulting in injuries to two officers and the suspect.

Despite life-saving measures, Mitchell was pronounced dead at Hennepin County Medical Center. The other injured officer’s injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. The suspect, along with two victims, was also pronounced dead.

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans described the attack as an “ambush,” revealing that Mitchell was shot while providing aid to others at the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing people fleeing from a gunman. The area was quickly surrounded by law enforcement, and residents were advised to stay indoors for their safety.

Governor Tim Walz expressed his condolences and emphasized the need for action to prevent such incidents from recurring. The Minnesota BCA is currently investigating the shooting and plans to release more information in the following days.
