A 7-year-old boy from Ogden, Utah, recently embarked on an unexpected adventure, driving his 5-year-old sister nine miles to a McDonald’s for breakfast. The incident, which left their mother in shock, occurred on the morning of April 27. The local police were alerted to a reckless driver around 8 a.m., but refrained from pursuing the vehicle when the caller mentioned the driver appeared to be a young child.
The journey ended when the white SUV, driven by the young boy, hit a parking strip. Upon arrival, the responders were surprised to find the young siblings unharmed. It was then discovered that the children had traveled nine miles from their home in Clearfield, armed with cash to purchase Happy Meals from McDonald’s.
The children’s mother, Whitney Bush, was unaware of her children’s escapade until she received a call from the police. The single mother of four was understandably shocked and worried. “I absolutely had my heart in my stomach… I had no idea what was going on,” she shared.
Bush humorously compared the incident to her son playing a real-life version of the video game ‘Grand Theft Auto’. Despite the humor, she made it clear that she was not proud of her son’s actions. The boy, who has had some behavioral issues and dreams of becoming a truck driver, will not face legal consequences due to his age. However, his mother has decided to impose her own form of punishment.
Bush plans to have her son perform community service-style tasks for their neighbors as a way to “serve his time.” She stated, “He’s in a world of trouble, he’s probably grounded for the rest of his life.” The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of children and the importance of keeping car keys out of their reach.
