LOS ANGELES — Actor Chad Lowe and his wife, producer Kim Painter, are mourning the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona, remembering the teenager as a loving, creative child who was deeply cherished by her parents and two sisters.
The family confirmed Fiona’s death in a statement released this week, saying they were “deeply heartbroken” by the loss. They described her as smart, creative and passionate about dancing and said she was adored by her sisters. The family asked for prayers and privacy while they grieve. No cause of death was announced by the family, and available reports said the circumstances remained under review.
Fiona Hepler Lowe was the middle of Lowe and Painter’s three daughters. Her older sister, Mabel, is 17, and her younger sister, Nixie, is 10. Fiona turned 13 in November 2025. Lowe had marked the milestone publicly with a birthday tribute to his daughter months before her death.
The Los Angeles Times and ABC News reported that the family described Fiona as “the light of our lives.” Their statement also included information for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for people struggling with mental health. The family did not connect that message to a publicly disclosed cause of Fiona’s death, and it would be inappropriate to infer one from the inclusion of the resource.
A report Thursday citing Los Angeles County medical examiner records said Fiona died Sept. 29 and that the cause of death remained under investigation. Earlier reports did not provide a medical determination. The family has not publicly offered further details about what led to her death and has asked that its privacy be respected.
Fiona’s grandfather, Charles “Chuck” Lowe, also publicly remembered his granddaughter after news of her death emerged. Entertainment Weekly reported that he shared a photograph and a brief tribute to her on social media. Other reports said Fiona’s school community was also mourning her death and making support available to students and staff.
Chad Lowe, 58, is an Emmy-winning actor whose television credits include “Life Goes On,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “9-1-1: Lone Star.” He is the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe. Painter is a producer. The couple married in 2010 and have raised their three daughters together.
The family had endured another major loss in early 2025 when their home was destroyed in the Palisades fire in Southern California. Lowe later shared images of his daughters looking at what remained of the property and wrote about their resilience following the disaster. That earlier hardship has been mentioned in coverage of Fiona’s death, though the family has made no public connection between the two events.
Lowe had spoken publicly in recent years about the importance of being a father to three daughters. Following Fiona’s death, however, the family’s statement focused on her personality, her love of dance and the bond she shared with her parents and sisters rather than the circumstances surrounding her death.
As of Thursday, the family had not announced additional details about Fiona’s death, and no final cause had been publicly reported. The Lowes continued to ask for privacy as relatives, friends and members of their community mourned the 13-year-old.
