In Missouri, a 70-year-old chiropractor, David B. Clark, is facing serious allegations of sexual abuse and sodomy. Prosecutors claim that Clark exploited his position to prey on Amish women and girls for decades, performing inappropriate “medical treatments” under the guise of routine exams.
The charges against Clark are based on the testimonies of five accusers, four of whom were minors at the time of the alleged assaults. One of the victims was under 14 years old when Clark first targeted her. However, authorities believe that Clark’s crimes date back to the 1980s and involve dozens of victims.
Clark operated a clinic, Health+Plus, on the outskirts of Kansas City. He presented himself as a “naturopath,” a title that attracted members of the Amish community who were unfamiliar with mainstream medicine. Many of his victims had never visited a medical professional before encountering Clark and were unaware of what to expect during a gynecological treatment.
The allegations against Clark include performing unnecessary and invasive breast and pelvic exams, often without gloves. In some cases, the parents of the victims were present during these assaults. One victim reported that Clark’s behavior would change depending on whether her parents were in the room.
When the FBI raided Clark’s home in June 2022, they discovered a draft of a novel about a doctor who becomes aroused while treating a female patient. They also found a letter written from the perspective of a father fantasizing about an incestuous relationship.
Clark is facing five felony sodomy counts and sexual abuse charges for assaults dating back to the 1990s. He was released after posting a $250,000 cash bond and has been ordered to have no contact with victims or witnesses. He is also prohibited from entering his clinic and from performing any medical treatment.
