(TheDailyHorn.com) – New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s controversial actions during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic have attracted the attention of the Justice Department.
The US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York initiated a criminal investigation into the Cuomo administration’s handling of COVID-related deaths in long-term care facilities earlier this year. That investigation expanded upon an earlier one probing civil liability.

Last summer, Cuomo cut a controversial $5.1 million book deal to write about his leadership during the pandemic. Now, investigators are gathering any information they can obtain about the memoir, including the governor’s pitch to publishers, contracts, and information known by state officials. The probe also includes the issuance of subpoenas to state officials who edited the first draft of Cuomo’s book.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers is accusing the governor of undercounting the deaths of elderly residents with COVID-19 in care facilities. The investigation is believed to be over a potential violation of the False Claims Act and other federal laws.
