Cambridge Announces 2021 Word of the Year

(TheDailyHorn.com) – For most Americans, 2021 was a challenging year. The COVID-19 pandemic brought about much uncertainty and frustration. Now, inflation is impacting millions of Americans on budgets as the prices of virtually everything are higher. To top it off, people are rightfully touchy as the politics of the day continues to divide Americans instead of bringing us together. On a brighter note, Cambridge Dictionary has aptly chosen a word of the year for 2021, and it’s “perseverance.”

According to Cambridge Dictionary, “perseverance is the continued effort to do or achieve something, even when this is difficult or takes a long time.” It seems a fitting word considering the challenges we all faced this year.

Perseverance is a positive word (and we need some positivity right now). It expresses admiration for those who are faced with adversity and find a way to overcome it. While we may not be able to solve the country’s problems, the one thing that isn’t out of our control is our attitudes and how we handle the challenges in our lives. That looks different for everyone, but the point is that here we are at the end of 2021. You persevered and made it through a tough year.

Let’s hope that in 2022, the word of the year is gratitude.
