MEDELLÍN, Colombia — Tou Ger Xiong, a well-known comedian and activist from Minnesota, was tragically kidnapped and murdered while on vacation in Colombia, his family confirmed. The 50-year-old Hmong community leader was abducted in Medellín after meeting a woman on social media, according to local officials cited by Colombian newspaper El Colombiano.
In a statement, Xiong’s family expressed their deep sorrow: “It is with immense sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the discovery of the body of our beloved family member, Tou Ger Xiong, who had been the victim of a kidnapping and murder. This has been an incredibly challenging time for our family, and we appreciate the support and understanding of our community during this difficult period.”
Xiong’s family is working closely with law enforcement agencies in their efforts to investigate the crime. His brother, Eh Xiong, revealed that on Sunday he received a distressing call from Tou Ger Xiong, in which he requested $2,000, believed to be the ransom demanded by the kidnappers. However, it remains unclear whether Xiong ever obtained the money.
The Colombian newspaper El Colombiano reported that Xiong’s body was discovered in a ravine, showing signs of stab wounds and blunt force trauma. Xiong had been in the country since November 29. Just a week before his untimely death, he attended a Karol G concert in Medellín, as evidenced by his Facebook page, which boasts over 19,000 followers.
Xiong’s family intends to establish a foundation in his honor, as they mourn the irreplaceable loss of a cherished member. “Tou Ger Xiong was a cherished member of our family, and the pain of his loss is indescribable,” the family expressed. “We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have offered their condolences, thoughts, and prayers.”
The investigation into Tou Ger Xiong’s kidnapping and murder is ongoing, with authorities determined to bring those responsible to justice.
