Employee Shot in Hospital Incident

A shooting incident occurred at a Michigan hospital on Thursday morning, resulting in a lockdown and a manhunt for the shooter. The incident took place in the parking garage of Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital and involved two employees of the institution. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly discharged five shots shortly after 7 a.m. Authorities have characterized the incident as a targeted attack between two hospital staff members.

The alleged shooter was apprehended without further incident around 9:30 a.m. at a residence in the nearby Macomb Township, as per police reports. The victim, a 25-year-old male, was struck twice in the arm, and his vehicle was also damaged during the incident. Lt. Ben Hancock of the Troy Police Department reported these details.

The victim was admitted to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Troy Police Chief Josh Johnson disclosed that the victim and the suspect were once friends who had recently had a falling out. The specific roles that the two individuals held at the hospital have not been clarified.

The victim’s identification of the suspect was instrumental in the police’s ability to apprehend the shooter, according to Lt. Hancock. The shooting incident led to a lockdown at the hospital, with staff receiving an active shooter alert instructing them to “take immediate personal safety measures and follow the run, hide, fight guidelines.”

Lamont Yoder, President of Corewell Health Southeast Michigan, acknowledged that the incident resulted in delays for some scheduled procedures. Local schools were also put on “soft lockdowns,” as reported by Lt. Hancock. The response to the incident involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
