Keith Eric Agee, a 21-year-old man, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his former girlfriend, Brooklyn Taylor Sims. Agee was convicted based on the belief that Sims had infected him with a sexually transmitted disease, a claim that was later refuted by prosecutors during the trial. The arrest of Agee, which occurred last year, was recorded on bodycam footage.
Sheila Agee, Keith’s 51-year-old mother, is also implicated in the crime. She is facing charges as an accomplice to the first-degree murder. Prosecutors claim that Sheila encouraged her son to murder Sims, who was not only her co-worker at Home Depot but also the mother of her grandchild. According to deputies in Escambia County, Florida, Sheila sent a text message to her son, urging him to kill Sims and cautioning him against telling his grandmother, who might try to dissuade him.
Keith Agee carried out the act, shooting Sims at the Home Depot where they both were employed. Authorities reported that he fled the scene but later turned himself in at a parking lot after dialing 911. The bodycam footage from the day of the arrest, August 11, 2023, shows Agee cooperating with the deputies.
During his trial, Agee confessed to confronting Sims but claimed he only shot her when she walked away from him during their conversation. His defense team argued for a lesser charge, but the jury was not swayed and convicted him of first-degree murder.
The case against Sheila Agee is still in progress. Her son testified that she provided him with Sims’ location before the shooting. Interestingly, before her arrest, Sheila had attended a balloon release ceremony held in honor of the victim.
Sheila’s trial began in November, but a mistrial was declared when a juror was found doing crossword puzzles during the intense deliberations. A new hearing has been scheduled for February 5, 2025.
