A fatal plane crash occurred in central Illinois over the weekend, resulting in the death of four individuals, according to official reports. This incident is one of several recent aviation accidents across the United States. The four victims were aboard a single-engine Cessna 180, which departed from Menomonie, Wisconsin, on Saturday morning. The plane crashed around 10:15 a.m. near County Road 1400 in Trilla, as confirmed by the Illinois State Police.
This tragic event took place just hours after another small plane crashed into Nebraska’s Platte River, claiming the lives of all three passengers. Kynnedi Goldstein, a local resident who witnessed the Illinois crash, reported that the impact was so powerful it caused a temporary power outage in her neighborhood.
Goldstein recounted hearing a loud noise, followed by a power outage. Upon investigating, she saw a large plume of smoke. The plane had departed from Menomonie, Wisconsin, before the fatal crash.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker stated that his administration is offering support to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) as they conduct an investigation into the incident. He expressed gratitude to the first responders who arrived swiftly at the scene and offered his condolences to those affected by the crash.
The identities of the four victims have not yet been released by officials. As of Sunday afternoon, the wreckage of the plane remained at the crash site, with local roads closed off. NTSB agents are expected to arrive on Monday, according to local WGN TV.
This incident follows a series of recent plane crashes, including one in upstate New York last week that killed a family of doctors and student athletes. Another crash occurred near the Boca Raton Airport in Florida just two days prior, resulting in three fatalities.
