Father Sacrifices Life to Save Toddler Daughter

DENVER, CO — A father in Denver, Colorado, tragically lost his life while heroically saving his 2-year-old daughter from being struck by an oncoming car. The incident occurred on December 7th at the intersection of 51st and Scranton, according to the Denver Police Department.

The victim, 36-year-old Alonso Garcia, was with his daughter when a car allegedly sped through the intersection and collided with him. In a split-second decision, Garcia pushed his daughter out of harm’s way, sacrificing himself to save her life, as confirmed by his sister, Karla Alanis, in an interview with Fox 31 Denver.

Alanis recounted her brother’s heroic actions, stating, “He decided to throw the stroller to push Liz, his daughter, out of the way before getting run over. I was the one who gave my brother CPR. So it’s hard for me to accept he’s gone.”

Garcia, who had suffered several severe injuries, including a fractured ankle, broken ribs, and a head fracture, was treated at the hospital but tragically found dead in his home days later, according to his sister’s GoFundMe post.

The cause of Garcia’s death is yet to be determined by the Medical Examiner’s office. Meanwhile, the Denver Police Department is investigating the incident. The driver responsible for the accident has been cited for Careless Driving-Resulting in Injury and No Proof of Insurance, as disclosed by the police.

To help cover funeral expenses, the family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to honor Garcia’s courageous act of protecting his daughter at all costs.
