Grandpa Shoots 19-year-old Granddaughter in the Head

A domestic dispute in South St. Louis escalated to a tragic level on Monday night when a 74-year-old man, Pierre Irving, allegedly shot his 19-year-old granddaughter. The incident, which took place around 11 p.m. on the 4600 block of South Broadway, left the local community in a state of shock and disbelief.

The young woman was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to her head. Irving, the alleged shooter, has since been charged with multiple counts of first-degree assault and armed criminal action in relation to the incident.

Police reports indicate that Irving shared an apartment with the victims at River Bluff Manor. The argument that led to the shooting reportedly stemmed from Irving’s refusal to maintain cleanliness in the shared living space, a situation that was exacerbated by alcohol.

During the heated argument, Irving is alleged to have retrieved a firearm and shot at both his granddaughter and her mother. While the mother managed to escape without injury, the granddaughter was critically wounded, with the bullet remaining lodged in her head.

A Ring doorbell camera captured Irving handing his gun to a neighbor after the shooting, providing crucial evidence for the police investigation. The incident, marked by the flashing lights and sirens of emergency vehicles, drew the attention of nearby residents.

Robert Green, a resident living across from the River Bluff complex, recounted the sight of the police lights and expressed disbelief at the violent turn of events within a family.

Irving is currently in police custody and is being held without bond as the legal proceedings continue. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the severe damage that domestic disputes can inflict on families.
