Man Arrested After Mother Found Dead in Bathtub

Fruitland, Maryland – A Maryland man has been taken into custody on murder charges following the death of his mother, who was found unresponsive in a bathtub.

Jeremy Gentry, 48, was apprehended by officers on Monday, May 6, according to a press release from the Maryland State Police Department. The charges against him include first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.

On Sunday, May 5, Fruitland Police Department and emergency medical service personnel responded to a call at Jeremy’s residence. Inside the home, which he shared with his 68-year-old mother, Beatrice Kay Gentry, they discovered an unconscious woman in the bathtub. Tragically, Beatrice was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an investigation, Maryland State Police Forensic Crime Scene Technicians processed the evidence and identified Jeremy Gentry as a suspect. Consultation with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Gentry.

Without incident, Gentry was arrested on Monday morning. The cause and manner of Beatrice’s death are still pending the results of an autopsy.

The Maryland State Police Department is continuing the investigation, receiving assistance from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Snow Hill Police Department, and Fruitland Police Department.

Jeremy Gentry is currently awaiting a bond hearing before a Wicomico County District Court Commissioner.
