Man Kills Girlfriend, Dies of Heart Attack While Dumping Her Body

Jessica Folds and Daniel Robbins were found dead June 10 near a running pickup truck in Chambers County.

LANETT, Ala. — Authorities say a Georgia man strangled his girlfriend, then died of a heart attack while trying to move her body into a wooded area in eastern Alabama, where deputies found both bodies June 10.

Jessica Folds, 47, of Lanett, and Daniel Robbins, 44, of Macon, Georgia, were found near County Road 86 after a report of a pickup truck left running beside the road. The case drew wide attention after autopsy results and statements from local officials pointed to a homicide followed by Robbins’ sudden death at the same scene.

Chambers County deputies responded after the truck was found with its headlights on and the driver’s door open. Investigators said the tailgate was down and a drag path led from the vehicle toward nearby brush. Sheriff Jeff Nelson said the scene showed signs that someone had tried to pull a body away from the road. Folds and Robbins were found close to each other in the wooded area. District Attorney Mike Segrest said investigators believe Robbins killed Folds before suffering the fatal heart attack.

Autopsy results showed Folds died from strangulation. Officials said Robbins died from a heart attack and had a known heart condition, according to information later shared by his former wife. Investigators have not said exactly when Folds was killed or where the assault began. They have said the available evidence suggests she was already dead when Robbins tried to move her body from the truck into the woods. Robbins was Folds’ boyfriend, Segrest said.

The deaths were investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and other assisting agencies. Because Robbins is dead, authorities are not expected to pursue a criminal case in court. The investigation instead centers on documenting the sequence of events, completing reports and confirming what evidence shows about the deaths. Officials have not announced any other suspects.

Folds’ death left relatives mourning a mother and grandmother remembered for her warmth. Public memorial information described her as a mother of three sons and a grandmother of two. Family members told reporters they were trying to process both the violence of her death and the strange circumstances that followed. Officials have described the case as a domestic violence homicide.

As of Tuesday, July 7, investigators had not released a full final report. The next step is the completion of case files by the agencies involved, including the medical and investigative records tied to the June 10 discovery.
