High Point, North Carolina – A pastor in North Carolina has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a McDonald’s cook after a workplace conflict escalated. According to police records, 57-year-old Dwayne Waden, who identifies as a pastor and semitruck driver, was charged with assault after reportedly punching the cook in the face and pushing his head toward a deep fryer.
The incident unfolded on Dec 28 when Latoya Gladney, a manager-in-training at the McDonald’s, called her husband to complain about disrespectful behavior from employees. In response, Waden arrived at the restaurant and confronted the cook, Theodore Garlington, initiating the physical altercation. Other employees had to intervene to separate the two individuals.
Garlington suffered injuries to his forehead, right eye, and neck as a result of the assault. Police were able to review surveillance footage that captured the incident. Following his arrest, Waden was released on bond. The franchise owner of the McDonald’s location confirmed that Gladney is no longer employed with the organization and emphasized their commitment to the safety and security of employees and customers.
Waden, who described himself as a pastor at Elevated Life International Ministries, previously stated on his Facebook profile that he aimed to bring “new levels of ministry” in the year 2024. However, his recent actions have drawn significant criticism on social media, with some accusing him of behaving like a “thug.” Waden’s court hearing is scheduled for January 22.
McDonald’s employees and customers were shocked by the incident, highlighting the need for a safe working environment. Assaults in the workplace are deemed unacceptable and can have severe physical and emotional consequences for victims.
The High Point Police Department is currently investigating the assault, and relevant evidence, including surveillance footage, will be crucial in determining the outcome of the case. The McDonald’s franchise owner’s swift response, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, and confirming the employee’s departure from the organization signifies their commitment to addressing workplace incidents promptly and ensuring the well-being of their staff and customers.
