Ron DeSantis Calls in Lawmakers as He Takes on Vaccine Mandates

(TheDailyHorn.com) – Nearly a year ago, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis was the first governor to fully reopen a state during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the popular conservative leader has declared that he would do all he could to uphold the US and Florida Constitutions.

In August, President Joe Biden ordered the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to draft workplace orders requiring companies and organizations with over 100 employees to mandate vaccinations. However, as America waits for the small federal agency to write the regulations, some corporations are already firing workers for failing to comply with company vaccination orders.

On Thursday, October 21, DeSantis called for a special legislative session of the Florida legislature to stop Biden’s vaccine mandate in Florida. DeSantis said he and the legislature must do everything possible to protect jobs and livelihoods. A date for the session is pending an announcement from OSHA. DeSantis said the state would sue the Biden administration over the mandates.

In early October, two counties violated a new state law that prohibited government entities in the state from passing mask and vaccine mandates. The heightened tensions come after Biden encouraged schools last summer to ignore state law and institute mask policies. The state fined Leon County $3.57 million for instituting a COVID-19 vaccine mandate and firing 14 people who remained unvaccinated.
