Teacher Arrested on Child Grooming, Indecency Charges

Police say an investigation into communications with a 16-year-old former student led to two felony charges against the Hebron High School educator.

CARROLLTON, Texas — A North Texas high school teacher surrendered to police after authorities obtained warrants accusing her of child grooming and indecency with a child by sexual contact in connection with an alleged relationship with a 16-year-old student.

Gloria Martinez Resendiz, 35, turned herself in at the Carrollton Jail on Oct. 6 before being transferred to the Denton County Jail, according to the Carrollton Police Department. Police said the investigation remains active and additional charges could be filed as detectives continue reviewing evidence. The charges are allegations, and Resendiz has not been convicted.

The investigation began Sept. 27 after a Hebron High School administrator notified Carrollton police about concerning electronic communications between Resendiz and a juvenile student, police said. The student had been enrolled in one of Resendiz’s classes during a previous school year but was no longer taking one of her classes when the concerns were reported.

An arrest affidavit obtained by local news organizations provides additional allegations about what investigators say they found. According to the affidavit, the student’s mother became concerned after discovering numerous phone and FaceTime calls between her daughter and Resendiz, along with communications through WhatsApp. Some of the calls allegedly lasted for several hours.

Investigators said the student continued spending time in Resendiz’s classroom even though Resendiz was no longer her teacher. The affidavit alleges that the student stayed after school in the classroom frequently and sometimes went there alone during lunch. Police obtained the student’s phone with parental permission and conducted a forensic examination as part of the investigation.

According to the affidavit, investigators found deleted messages, communication records and locked journal entries on the phone. Authorities said the entries appeared to describe a romantic relationship between the student and Resendiz. Investigators also alleged that Resendiz gave the student several gifts. Those claims are part of the criminal investigation and have not been proven in court.

The affidavit alleges that entries on the phone described the student and Resendiz kissing beginning in March 2026. Investigators said other entries referred to the two having romantic feelings for one another and described efforts to keep the alleged relationship hidden. Police said the evidence led investigators to conclude there was probable cause to seek an indecency charge.

Authorities obtained warrants accusing Resendiz of indecency with a child by sexual contact, a second-degree felony, and child grooming, a third-degree felony. A magistrate signed a probable cause determination connected to the indecency allegation on Oct. 2, according to the arrest affidavit. Police publicly announced they were seeking Resendiz before she surrendered the following day after the warrants were announced.

Lewisville Independent School District placed Resendiz on administrative leave after learning of the allegations. The district said she is prohibited from entering district facilities and that officials are cooperating with Carrollton police. Hebron High School also made counselors available to students and staff after the allegations became public.

The Carrollton Police Department has said it will not disclose information that could identify the juvenile involved in the case. Police have not announced that their review of the evidence is complete, and investigators said further charges remain possible. An attorney for Resendiz had not responded to a request for comment reported by NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth as of the latest published update.
