A 13-year-old boy from Hialeah, Miami-Dade, has been indicted by a Grand Jury on charges of first-degree murder, escalating his case to the adult felony court system. The boy’s identity remains undisclosed due to his age. He stands accused of murdering his mother. His legal team had previously attempted to transfer him from an adult jail to a juvenile detention center while he awaits trial, but their request was rejected on Friday.
The case continued on Friday with a hearing to decide where the teenager would be detained. The boy showed no emotion as his recorded confession was played in court the day before. The confession unveiled harrowing details of the crime that transpired on the night of October 12th.
The police report states that the boy admitted to stabbing his mother more than 40 times. The authorities were alerted to the crime when they received a 911 call from the teenager himself, confessing that he had just killed his mother. The police were then dispatched to an apartment located in the 200 block of West 79th Place.
Upon their arrival, the officers found the lifeless body of 39-year-old Irina Garcia in her bedroom. In a disturbing scene, the body was discovered next to a crib holding a 14-day-old infant, who was fortunately unharmed. The police confirmed that Garcia had been stabbed multiple times.
The police have since made public images from inside the apartment where the crime took place. Among the released images is a photograph of a long knife smeared with blood, believed to be the murder weapon. The police have clarified that they had no previous interactions or history with the family.
The case continues to evolve, with the teenager’s attorneys advocating for his transfer to a juvenile detention center. However, the severity of the crime and the indictment by the Grand Jury have hindered their efforts. The boy’s unemotional demeanor in court has added another layer of complexity to this tragic case.
