A tragic incident unfolded in Amarillo, Texas, when a man fatally shot his wife and her two children before taking his own life. The man, identified as 42-year-old electrician Jose David Olmos, had a history of domestic violence and had been arrested for assaulting a family member just months prior to the incident.
The Amarillo Police Department responded to a 911 call from a relative on Saturday and discovered the bodies of Jose David Olmos, his wife Jessica Rose Olmos, 33, and her two children, Daniel and Jazale Garcia. Each victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. According to the police, it appears that Jose David Olmos shot his family before turning the gun on himself.
Jose David Olmos had been arrested in May for assaulting a family member and was released on a $5,000 bond. Court documents revealed that he had hit his wife and was ordered to avoid any contact with her or the children. He was also required to attend an alcohol education course.
Jessica Rose Olmos had recently returned to the home in an attempt to reconcile and improve the marriage. The children were also living in the home at the time of the incident. James Clements from the Amarillo Police Department’s homicide unit shared these details with local media.
Jose Olmos had a criminal history, including a one-year sentence in 2001 for possession of marijuana and a 90-day sentence in 2008 for driving while intoxicated. He was not supposed to have access to the firearm used in the incident, which belonged to his wife, according to Clements.
The children were Jessica’s from a previous relationship and were not related to Jose. The shocking incident occurred months after the couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. Family and friends expressed their disbelief and grief over the tragic event on social media.
Jessica was employed as an office manager for Jess Bara State Farm Agency. Her daughter, a seventh-grader, was a talented wrestler. The age of the youngest child, Daniel, was not immediately disclosed.
The family’s loss was deeply felt by their loved ones, including Jessica’s stepdaughter Arianna Olmos, who paid tribute to her stepmother and siblings, noticeably omitting her father from her tribute. The Amarillo Police Department’s Homicide Unit is currently investigating the incident.
