MORGANTON, North Carolina – A heartbreaking incident unfolded outside River Valley Baptist Church in Morganton, North Carolina, when a 2-year-old boy was shot in the head by his 3-year-old brother, as reported by authorities.

The startling event occurred around 8:26 p.m. on Sunday October 15, prompting a call to the police about a gunshot wound. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release detailing the incident. Emergency personnel informed the police that the young boy had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Responding officers secured the scene, and medical personnel quickly arranged for helicopter transport to CMC Main in Charlotte.

As of the latest update, the child remained in critical condition and was undergoing surgery. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, with more information expected to be released as developments unfold.

The boy, identified as Daniel Vines by WCCB Charlotte, is the son of pastor Adam Vines. He shared that Daniel and his family were attending a late Sunday night service at the River Valley Baptist Church when the incident occurred. Remarkably, the bullet’s path spared the most critical areas, as Pastor Adam Vines explained, “The bullet went behind his ear but went across the corner on the lower side instead of going through the brain. His talking, communications, his moving ability, all of that part is still intact.” He further added that, “He’s stable right now,” and expressed gratitude that the damage was not as severe as initially feared.

This tragic event has deeply affected the community, with neighbors expressing their sympathy and concern for the family. Teresa Jordan, a neighbor who witnessed the aftermath of the incident, said, “I feel for the family. It just breaks my heart. It shows you how quick your life can change.”
